Ok got the Tomtom back within 2 days of posting back to them(and they paid the postage).

Tomtom have replaced the screen. And it now works fine again Very Happy

Have nothing but praise for Tomtoms ...

It's quite common, and usually caused by dirt under the bezel. Running the corner of a stiffish piece of paper around between the screen and the bezel to remove any debris should cure it.
