Works fine for me. Are you sure you have alerting enabled for that particular POI category? It is done by category, not in general.
Make sure your sound volume is sufficient, too.

In TomTom Go does the POI audible warning (Speed Cams) only work when a route is planned.
When just using the 3D map with no route planned I can see the POI but get no warning. If a route is planned ... |
