I wrote to Garmin suggesting that for the UK, if a road has a number then use it. That would be in-line with the road signs and safer.

The problem seems to be down to the map. Each road has a text message and this could be anything including 'Merry Xmas' but as UK seems to be alone in using road numbers in preference to road names at ... |

Just returned from Barcelona where :-
Only major trunk roads had numbers. Road numbers were used on signs.
Road signs used district, place or point of interest.
Road signs did not use road ... |

It is possible to navigate using a satnav without road numbers.
It is possible to navigate just using the satnav diagram and no voices. I have a friend who does this. ... |

My wish is simple. If the road has a road number use the number. That allows drivers to get in lane and drive safely.

Are you suggesting that TTS uses 'extra' text from the map, where as normal voice uses some other source such as the road vectors/geometry to pick appropria ... |

If I had a Nuvi I would not ask others to try it for me.
I am using my old TomTom XXL until some questions are answered.
But I will probably buy a garmin anyway. |

Slight hope. Garmin support suggested trying changing the device voice to avoid 'Real directions'. Apparently non-Real directions may not use street names and may use road numbers more often.

I see how its done.
When told to take the third exit, look for a road sign with road numbers, work out the road I need, find the lane I need and use this + counting exits to keep me right.
