Like many folks I've used both TomTom and Garmin devices over the years. I'm currently on a TT Go 60, however I think it is about to find a new home with one of my daughters. I think I might repalce it with a Garmin with traffic over the DAB network.
I've recently been 'playing' with TomTom 'MyDrive' and I like the idea of being able to plan a route on a PC (on the TomTom mapping) and then transfer it to the TomTom device. Is there anything similar in Garmin's tool box?

Have a look at Basecamp.
I've not used it but I know some here have and will respond soon. _________________ Satnav:

I've used BC for years and use it both for route planning on my nuvi and my various Garmin handhelds. Its free so you can download it and have a look without having a Garmin device but it only comes with a very basic map so don't judge it on that!
There's a good tutorial here, which while it's aimed at motorcyclists and the Zumo range is pretty much applicable to the nuvi range also

or see the video here

which is one of a series. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I have been using Tyre to Travel (http://www.tyretotravel.com/) for years. They have recently launched a new app called Myrouteapp (https://www.myrouteapp.com/) which runs online in a browser rather than a Windows application.
The free version of Tyre has always met my needs for creating gpx routes to use on my Garmin. I have a feeling that the free version of myrouteapp may be slightly more restrictive on features and I plan to look at the premium version.
I did recently download Basecamp to try but ditched it when it wouldn't even let me change the install directory - I've never been impressed by Garmin's software efforts anyway and glad to have an alternative which means I don't need them.
