Greetings everyone.

Below is a link to a page from TFL website, posted September last year giving information regarding replacement of old wet film cameras with new digital ones.
It goes on to say about trialling in 4 areas an average speed system similar to the one in place on the A13.

One of the new locations is the A40 from the Polish War Memorial all the way to the Paddington slip. I have been told that work begins son on installation of these cameras. It is possible that initial work had already started.
Those of you driving this route could keep an eye out for any work.

That is certainly in my back yard but not a route I use.

Do we know what sort of cameras they intend to use? the only single digital camera I see is the one eastbound just before I peel off at the Polish.

Sorry, don't know the type of camera, I did have a look art the TFL site but no details. They may be the same as those on the A13.

They are also doing a stretch of the north circular as well, don't know when they start though. The A40 supposed to in the next 4/5 weeks.

I don't drive into town these days, use the tube. But I'll have a look if I can every week and see if I can see anything out my way.

Sorry forgot to say.
Don't know of the cameras are going to cover inbound and outbound traffic. But of you look at all the on and off locations of that stretch of the A40 it's going to be a lot of cameras. Unless it's those new ones that cover multiple lanes and both directions.
I think they can do that.

That is certainly one stretch to average out as I'm forever seeing accidents reported along all that road.

They need to be average and spot cameras though because I'll guess not all do the whole stretch. On Motorways you're captive as you usually can't turn off between Specs.

Or they could be clever and have each camera an average from the previous one and not necessarily the whole road.

Surely that's how they all work. Nothing clever about it when a central computer is involved.
