Just fifteen major road and motorway speed camera zones have managed to catch almost 80,000 drivers - raising close to £5 million in fines.
The 15 reported temporary average speed cameras covered a variety of roadworks across England.
Although 80,000 is only a small fraction of the overall amount of motorists who travelled through these roadworks, it still represents a significant amount of people that either ignore the speed limit, lose concentration or are ignorant of how these cameras work.
A spokesman for Highways England commented: "Their blatant disregard for road safety puts other drivers and our workforce at risk."
The busiest camera, on the M54 in Shropshire and Staffordshire, recorded over 13,000 drivers speeding within an 18 month period.
The highest-earning temporary cameras as reported by The Mirror:
1. M54 near Wolverhampton - 13,484 drivers in 18 months.
