Garmin 2547 LM slow to locate GPS signal :(

Seems to take forever to locate a signal before it calculates......much longer then my old 775:?

secondly how can I get rid of the "you are going through an environmental zone" every time I want to go somewhere! I live in London for heaven's sake! that said I like the new unit and glad that the annoying "recalculating" message has been removed, but this just as annoying Wink

Settings, Navigation, Environmental zones ... select Allow. That should do it Confused

As for satellite lock on, my 2508 is pretty instant and faster than my older 1490. Ensure you remain stationary until you get a lock ... if you're moving, especially at speed in a vehicle, lock on time is significantly increased.

Also, check whether your car has one of those 'thermic windscreens' like Ford that has some form of metallic elements that partially block the GPS signal.

it even takes forever standing in the garden! i dont think it is working right.....

Am I right in thinking this is a new satnav? If so leave it sitting there for a while with a clear view of the sky. It needs to build up the Almanac and Ephemeris data it needs, info on that is here

Once it's done so it should lock on very quickly. If it still doesn't then I'd return it, explain the problem and ask for a new one.

It seems to be working OK now after leaving it outside for a bit... Smile

but the routing is annoying, taking me down totally inappropriate roads for a camper Sad

is there a way of setting it up not to take short cuts and stick to main roads?

but its more than 3 times the price Smile

so theres no way of stopping the routing taking me down single track roads? Don't remember the 775 being as bad as this.....

Do you have routing set to 'fastest'? Even with that though it's possible you'll be routed down inappropraite roads for a camper. Unfortunately there isn't an 'avoid narrow roads' setting.

You could try plotting routes on Garmin's Basecamp program ... it has an RV routing profile that includes an 'avoid narrow roads' setting.
