I took the plunge and got the 3598 from Halfords.
What I noticed when got home that there was no security seal on the box (to prove it had never been opened before) and on checking the device there is a 4GB Sandisk memory card in it.
Have they decided to put the 4GB memory card in it? Could this have been a previously returned item?
The travel pack I got with it, was security tagged....
Also the aerial for the traffic says 200mm from the the edge of your windscreen - surely this is incorrect as it would be full smack in your view |

I've heard some Garmins are being supplied with a card, presumably due to the ever increasing size of maps etc.
I wouldn't worry about the cable, the receiver is in the satnav so anywhere on the screen will work. |

thanks
On checking device it says 8GB version (not sure if that includes the 4GB card, if not then 12GB of data)
I'm just updating it at the moment and it says it needs to use the card and once used it cannot be removed as critical files will be stored on it and removing it will cause device not to function.
Ideally I would have expected the critical files to be kept on the device itself and not on the memory card.
The software doesn't detect the serial number though |

It puts the map on the card so that's why it needs to stay in |

Do you know if I must purchase the traffic on the smartlink app as well, even though the device has the digital traffic.
And must i use my gmail account for registration of the satnav itself so it links correctly to the smartlink app |

Yes, a £15 addition
I'm happy with it though. Means I can use my Garmin compatible, hardwire solution
I reckon if you can afford that top-of-the-range Garmin with all the bells and whistles you can afford the £15 _________________ Satnav:

Personally I wouldn't bother with any of the smart link add-ons. The digital traffic receiver is so much of an improvement over the previous traffic info. Shows delays on minor roads too and is updated every 30seconds and on my experience it is very accurate too.
The traffic cable / antenna can be placed anywhere. It is much more sensitive then previous versions so the antenna doesn't need to route along the window / dashboard.
This plus weekly PGPSW speed cam download keeps the 3598 working as I want it to. _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.70

Camera alerts work in the normal way but you need to have sox.exe in the poi folders to get the spoken alerts.
The digital traffic should show automatically but you can show on continuous display if you tap 3 baron the bottom right it shows a number of display options, one of which is traffic _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.70

thanks - so the camera alerts appear along the top in red - if so this is brilliant
cheers regarding the traffic as wasn't sure if you had it hidden it would display if serious traffic issues - according to garmin you should be able to use voice to check the traffic, but not worked that out yet
Quote: | With voice recognition (ASR) on this model, Garmin Traffic will responds to spoken requests. You get details about the situation, such as how many minutes of delay to expect and if there are any possible detours. It can even confirm whether or not you are on the fastest route. |

Mine don't appear in red. White text on grey I think.
I get the camera info in a banner at the top for a few seconds though and then the banner reverts back to the previous info like what's ahead or my journey time and traffic status. (Due home in 24 Mins - 8 mins delay) or something like that.
Be interesting to see what you get. _________________ Satnav:
