Hi,

I submitted a set of cameras last week, and have just been looking on the submissions page and trying to work out (not ask!) if my submissions were valid or not. I looked on the forum, and found the following the the 'Lifetime Membership Award Criteria' sticky...

Quote:
Forum members can view their submitted camera locations on the submission map here. If you were the first to submit a location, then it will be displayed with a different coloured icon as long as it has a provisional status.

If you were not first then whilst it is a provisional camera it will NOT be visible to you.

The submissions I checked have a blue speed camera pin in the location I submitted. Does this fit into the 'different coloured icon' category as mentioned above? The 2nd paragraph suggests I wouldn't see my submission if it had already been submitted by somebody else, but I assume the co-ordinates would have to be exactly the same for it not to show, so its not entirely 'reliable' as to a successful life time qualifying submission?

Just to clarify, I'm not asking if my submissions have been verified/or are successful/unsuccessful, I just want to know how the submissions map works.

the blue pin with a speed camera is the marker for the centre of the map! i.e. you use this to pinpoint where you want to submit a camera. wherever you move the map this will still be in the middle.

the icons you would see if you were first are like this: but may vary in colour depending on the camera type.

no, i process every submission manually so anything that looks (based on location and submitted comments etc) like it is referring to the same location is treated as being in the same location. so even though 2 submissions may be 20m apart they would be treated as being for the same camera site.

please note that to the 'if you can see the submission then you were first' rule does not necessarily mean it will qualify for a lifetime submission - it also needs to be accurate! so sometimes a user who can see their submission may not actually get the lifetime sub. likewise, if someone cannot see their submission they may still qualify (eg if a verifier visits and corrects the location to where the 2nd (or 3rd, 4th, 5th etc) submission was). the key for lifetime subs is THE FIRST ACCURATE submission.

hope that helps?

Thanks MaFt, just the clarification I wanted. Cheers.

looks a very useful approach, but just a suggestion.

Despite the official line now being taken, this thread is one where an enquiry has been raised which HAS resulted in a further clarification. Another recent example is a thread with ledgepie's enquiry which also got quite a lot of clarification, as it was clearly recognised that there was a need for more explanation on the particular enquiry raised.

Both look like issues which may not be explained so thoroughly in the sticky at the moment, and I can see similar situations arising in the future. Where this happens is it intended to update the sticky (perhaps just by adding these 'new-info' threads to its list of topics)?

As the new sticky says, the variations on the question are still without limit. But you're right, the above from MaFt is very useful (and I think Darren's actually taken up this suggestion if you look at it again). As you say, the ledgepie thread saw a bit more information added.

Balancing act, innit? The new sticky is not short and sharp (to say the least!) and one art of communication is not to bore the reader with too much print. Another is getting all the information out there. We try. Confused

And the ledgepie one? Repeat, balancing act, how many stickies does it take to make something stick? Laughing

Hi Brierls
I submitted a camera to be removed 14 weeks ago in S.E. London.
I got the red square box with the gross in it on the map the next day but am still waiting for it to be verified.
So you will have to be Patient.

Regard

I've incorporated parts of MaFt's reply in to the sticky that we will refer similar questions to.

Cool.... I'll "un-sticky" this one again... (If I can remember how!)
