I don't know if anyone can help but my TomTom ONE 3rd edition has decided not to start at all. I have charged it using both a USB lead and a mains charger and the green light next to the start button lights up. But if I press the start button nothing happens. I have tried using the Reset and again noting happens.

Anyone any ideas!! Thanks

For how long are you hoding down the power button?

Try at least 20 seconds.

The One Third Edition has a true reset switch in the base of the device, so the alternate reset using the power switch won't work on this device.

Connect it to the PC, shut down TomTom Home and can you see the drive letter associated with the TomTom when using Windows Explorer, and when clicked to open the drive letter does it show lots of folders and files?

If so we should be able to recover the device with a simple re-installation of the Navcore software - Mike

Hi Mike

Unfortuately no drive letter is shown in Windows Explorer. Normally I see it as Drive M: but there is nothing at all at the moment.

That doesn't sound good, try a different mini USB lead, and if possible a different computer but if none of the above can recognise the device it sounds like the flash memory/ USB interface has packed in - Mike

I've tried a couple of different USB leads and also tried connecting the TomTom to my laptop as well as my desktop and nothing changes.

So it's looks like my unit is faulty. Fortunately it is not quite one year old (purchased from Handtec on 19 May 2008) so it should still be covered by the warranty. I will get in touch with them.

Well I contacted TomTom by email. They got me to check a couple a things but then sent me a box and a pre-paid Royal Mail Next Day delivery packet.

I sent the unit off to them on Monday morning and received it back this morning (Thursday) all working again.

Now that's what I call pretty good service.
