TomTom displays the current speed and, where it knows it, the current speed limit. This is displayed as eg 35/40. When the speed limit is exceeded by about 2 mph the display changes to RED eg 43/40.
My question is, can this change of colour be used to trigger an audio warning? If it cannot then I believe this would be a valuable and possibly easy modification to the software.

if i remember correctly there is a setting that can alert you with a sound if you go over the limit. it is an option along the lines of 'warn when over the seed limit' but really can't recall where it was!

With the stand alone navigation devices you can have an audio warning available by going to Change Preferences/ Safety Preferences and select the checkbox for ''Warn when driving faster than allowed'' press done and then select the warning sound you want to hear.
If you are using the PDA software then it cannot offer the audio warning for overspeed - Mike

Thanks for all your replies. Very Happy
As TomTom seem unable or unwilling to release TT7 for the PDA market, can you recommend any models of (inexpensive) PND which have the ability to give the "You're Speeding" warning? With 6 points on my licence from portable cameras when driving without my PDA on, I need to do something to replace the warnings I usually get from my wife!

TBH, I would have thought 6 points was enough of a replacement for the warnings you usually get from your wife - if you believe the Camera Partnerships, that's what they are supposed to do - who's leaning on the accelerator pedal?

Why not use the Speed Camera dtabase from this site ICW GPS Speed Sentry software on your PDA, this offers warnings along with a whole host of other features - have a read Here or look at the McGuider software which does offer overspeed warnings based upon the map data - Mke

That thought occurred to me too. I'd be a bit concerned that a driver was so unaware of their speed that they had to rely on satnag alerts
