Trying to set this up with my unit but it asks for a subscription number. I thought it was a free service - it was advertised as a free service with the unit I bought.
Anyone advise please?

From the sales blurb:- Simplest way to get basic traffic information without a subscription.
How?

I asked Expansys although I did not buy the unit or the TMC from them. Yoni usually gives good advice so I thought I would cheekily ask them.
Nothing from them yet. |

It is as much use as a chocolate teapot! I am in the process of trying to get my money refunded because this just does not work.
I have spoken to HP Live support twice who were no help whatsoever, so I then rang the HP UK helpline who had no idea. I have asked on countless forums and have no information whatsoever been given me.
It is supposed to be subscription free yet asks for a subscription when first trying to use it. The link takes you to a page that does not mention anything about it.
Please forget about this heap of scrap - buy something useful with your money! IF HP don't know, then who do?

Cheers Doug - thanks for the reply.
I too spent nearly an hour online with a so called HP Ipaq support expert. Totally clueless guy. He referred me to an article on the HP website which just states the the service is free or payable depending on country but then fails to list which countries are free and which are payable.
Useless!!
I really wish I had bought a different Sat Nav system now - one that really does provide free TMC!! |

Hi Harry,
It's a shame really because I like the unit itself. Different from the usual TomTom stuff.
Maybe one day they'll get their act together! I am trying to get my money back from a firm who say it is not their fault it does not work but is okay as a charger! Can you believe it?

Doug
Did you retry the TMC after you'd updated to the latest version of the software?

Hi John,
No, I managed to return it which was a bit of a saga in itself. There is no way I want to waste my time with that again. The thing that hacked me off the most was the lack of any support from the people that make it - HP! Try and find a list of countries that it is supposed to work in. The specs list says supported in some counties but couldn't find out any info.
If anyone can get it to work, please let me know and I will reconsider it but please - not me again!
The actual machine is now a 100% better than out of the box - obviously an upgrade was needed. You never know how old the software is even though it is brand new - it could have sat on the supplier's shelf for a year or so!

Quote: | you'd know that TMC is NOT a free service in UK:
"...
Within the United Kingdom TMC services are only offered as pay services... |
However it is a one off fee and is usually covered it the purchase price when you buy a Sat Nav with a TMC or an add on TMC. With Garmin the Subscription Data is held in the TMC unit and the subscription is activated when you use the TMC for the first time, but only once it gets a good signal. After purchase there is nothing else to pay, ever.... |

Not being funny but this is from the manual and i assume you're already following this.
Quote: | To receive a TMC data from a source, which needs subscription, you need to subscribe to it. Tap Subscribe TMC to subscribe. A new screen is displayed. Fill in the required details, tap the Web site and enter details when prompted. Tap Enter code, and enter the received TMC subscription
code. Tap Done when finished. |
Doesn't make sense to me. Definitely no sub code on the TMC unit or in the box / manual? |

Paul, I'd like to add that some nav brands give you a 'speedcam' code or a 'tmc' code as soon as you'll register the unit on their website, using the unit SN (i.e. Sony Navigon...)
And. |
