Newbie wanting help with Streetpilot III

Before posting this i have searched to try and find out the answer so if its been done before i am sorry

I have bought a streetpilot III for my motorbike which is a fab bit of kit & i am really happy with it, however i am having a problem uploading routes onto the unit, I have version 6 & 9 of the maps all unlocked etc,
I can transfer maps etc onto the data card, but when i go into the route menu nothing is listed. I end up having to pick the waypoints again on the actual unit & work out the route that way!

Am i right in thinking that the routes can also be transfered via the serial cable???? I have not tried this yet as i am waiting for a serial to usb converter
