920 mapsettings.cfg onto 930 will I be OK?

Hi All,

I have sold my 920T and today bought a 930 Traffic (Glutton for Punishment) I know it will still lock up on phone calls etc.

But what I want to know is if I put all the Euro/UK PGPSW speed cameras on the unit, can I put the old mapsettings.cfg file on the new unit so I wont have to re activate them all.

Because the map is different will this cause a problem?

Why not do a full explorer backup of your new device and then try it. If it fails just copy back the old settings file.

If it all goes tits up then you have the full backup there.

What you do FIRST OF ALL is a complete backup using Windows explorer, then whatever wickedness you try you will be able to recover from.

However, if you were having troubles with your 920T, don't you think it might be a good idea to start the 930T with a clean sheet? Sure, it's a pain in the thingy, but in your place I'd start all over again. Surely it's worth all that effort to be satisfied you haven't ported any horribles over from the 920?

Remember anyway (once you've done the complete backup FIRST) that you'll want to update it and get Latest Map Guarantee before you add the cameras. After you've done the updates you'll want to do another backup of those too before you mess about with cameras and stuff.

Once you've updated and got zillions of backups, you can experiment to your heart's content. But I wouldn't risk it.

Yeah an explorer backup will be the first thing I do, I guess Dennis N is right I best start afresh, to eliminate carrying problems across. Its just that I have speed zoned cams both in the UK and Europe to do, and it takes forever! I am using the excellent OGG files from this site, but you still have to set them up to warn when near.

But I think I should start from scratch, its a pity though as I had quite a few favourite places as well Rolling Eyes

Sorry to hear about your fuel situation, I live near the Dartford Crossing getting fuel here is not a problem at present.

I think starting with aclean sheet is definitely the way to go. MapSettings.cfg causes so many subtle niggly problems.

Now, re your favourites, rather then Dennis' suggestion, if you have a copy of POI Edit, you can just import your old MapSettings.cfg into that, which will show your favourites, Home location recent destinations etc. (good for forensics eh?).
Pick out the bits you want and re-save as a POI file in ov2 format. Put that on the new 930 and away you go. you can turn them back into favourites via the menus if you like or not bother.
