Upgrade to Software v7.16 and Europe map v7.10 on a GO 910

After taking the plunge and upgrading my GO 910 to Navcore 7.16 I discovered that my v6.575 maps would not support MapShare as I'm sure many others have found out!

I emailed TomTom and suggested that my six month old unit was now semi-obsolete with an operating system that only partly worked. To my surprise they replied very quickly and offered me a free Western Europe map upgrade, not just to v6.7 that supports MapShare but to the brand new v7.10 that seems to have just been launched!

I downloaded the map (it took about two hours) but during installation an error "Cannot find file..." aborted the process and I found I did not have a Europe map at all. This time I phoned TomTom in a panic and they suggested I re-install after deleting the Western Europe map directory after copying out my POI files and then restoring the POI's after installation. That worked a treat and now I have a GO 910 with all the latest software and maps, MapShare that works and a few other new toys. Result!

Just a few points to mention:

First the minuses:
1: POI capture and custom menus seem to be no longer supported so I have reluctantly had to give these up.
2: The unit takes a little longer to get a satellite fix on start-up.
3: The quick-menu from the GO x20's doesn't make an appearance.

Now the plusses:
1: Mapshare seems to work great- The best bit is resetting incorrect on-ways and blocked roads and you can have a "Mark this location for reporting later" button on screen as well.
2:The unit powers up and down with the ignition on my car.
3: The announcement clarity has changed for the better.
4: Spoken alerts now available for TT's own speed camera locations (I know I should be using the PGPSW ones but my TT subscription hasn't run out yet) and also the alert distance can now be changed.
5: Lots of new minor software tweaks to play with.

All in all, if you are thinking about upgrading then I'd say go for it- it's worth it in the end but hassle TomTom for a map upgrade as well!

weirdly, although the quick menu doesnt appear, enabling certain items will make it appear.

Likewise, you can force it to alter the cursor as well, but that takes more doing.

The "lite" version of navcore7 is quite weird.

you can set up your options on the full version, then stick on your proper version (7.16), and keep most of the set options.

congrats on the free upgrade by the way - you jammy git :P

So how do you get the quick menu and enable the custom cursors? They would complete the job...

youll have to work out the cursors for yourself.

The quick menu can be turned on by adding specific things to it - like driving breaks etc. Its still fairly limited though. I think something in the safety settings turns it on as well. You wont get a quick menu settings button though.
