910 / Home & Vista Premium

hi guys and gals
im pulling my hair out at the moment and need some help.
bought a new laptop with vista premium operating system. ive had major problems with uncompatable software and hardware ever since ive had it.
when i bought my go 910 i backed everything up on my desktop which has since blown up and has gone to computer heaven. luckily when i first loaded my 910 on it i backed it up to my external hard drive so i have all the original files. ive only ever downloaded 1 set of speed cameras from here and that was about 7 months ago so thought it was about time i updated them as im doing another long journey in 3 weeks time.
now the problem starts.
loaded tom tom home onto the lappy without any problems BUT when i connect the 910 it goes through its start up asking do i want to connect to my computer and then thats it. nothing happens. tom tom home says there are no tom tom devices conected?????

so here i am asking the experts for help so please HEEELLLPPP
