I am thinking of buying a Tom Tom Sat Nav. I was thinking of buyiong the TT 510, but does it do Door to Door navigation across Europe and also handle cross border?
For example, if travelling from my home in Hampshire to a location in The Netherlands, I need a unit that I can enter my home address and then enter my destination address in The Netherlands and I want it to seamlessly take me from the UK, through France, Belgium and into The Netherlands. Will the TT 510 do this or will I need the TT 710? |

The 510 contains the UK map PLUS Major Roads Of Europe, its OK for navigation but will not necessarily take you to the door in a foreign country, as it only has major roads installed.
The 710, 910 or TT One V3 Europe all contain full street level mapping so these will do what you want.
There was a retailer only recently that was selling the 510 with a free Europe map SD card, so this could be an option to consider - Mike |

You might prefer to wait until you are getting off the ferry (or chunnel) to set the destination address, simply because the device won't necessarily take you via your selected crossing (not really a problem though, it'll recalculate when you go off route anyway).
You won't be able to enter a Netherlands postcode for your destination until you are out of the UK (but you will be able to enter street and house number).
When you do get off the ferry/chunnel, immediately set that location as a favourite to use to navigate back to for your return crossing. _________________ Dennis

If you are connected to HOME you can set your Current Location to anywhere in the Netherlands. Then in Browse Map, use Find to locate the Postcode. Add the location as Favourite, or POI, and Hey Presto you have a location to Navigate to.;) _________________ Richard

Aw c'mon Oldboy. That is utterly low, sneaky, reptillian and all such underhand stuff (and unknown to Tom Tom of course who helpfully told me that you can navigate to UK postcode when in UK and Netherlands postcode when in Netherlands). Only a person of little character and even less conscience could come up with the idea of setting your current location to somewhere where you aren't currently!! I think you came up with this one just because you know I don't like TT Home. _________________ Dennis

Only slightly off topic, is there any way to get TomTom to use a Dover - Calais ferry rather than the Tunnel? I was sitting on the quayside at Dover last week, and plotted a route to Calais ferry treminal, and TT still wanted me to go back to Folkstone, use the tunnel and drive from Coquelles to Calais! I wouldn't mind so much, but I'm not convinced the tunnel is always the quickest motorway to motorway. _________________ Go740L App 9.510 Europe 985.8155

The route can start anywhere you like (as long as it's on the Map), and it can't pick up the GPS Signal to mess your Planning Session.;) _________________ Richard

Set Waypoint 1 at Dover Dock Service road and Waypoint 2 to Calais Dock Exit road. In both cases as close to the shore line as possible.
Set the destination to wherever you want to go.
I've found this works, even if you then drive South past the Tunnel. _________________ Richard

I tried that, and it still wanted to use the tunnel, in both directions! _________________ Go740L App 9.510 Europe 985.8155
