new splash screen when turning off its just blank

ive put a different splash screen on when ive disconnected from pc and powered up, the splash screen comes up,but when i turn off it just stays blank for 2or3 seconds then turns off

have i messed something up
this is what ive done
right click an image, save as splash.bmp on your Desktop. Plug your GO into your PC, find splash.bmp, rename to oldsplash.bmp, copy new image over

if i have a signal and switch off then swith on the splash screen does not appear it just boots up straight away
