I'm going to upgrade from Psion 5mx ( Embarassed ) in the near future, and would prefer to go for Tungsten T2 (shareware, price, hatred of Bill Gates Evil or Very Mad ) but want to have a GPS system that will provide both good routefinding on the road and off it.

EMTAC or TomTom Bluetooth GPS seems to be the way to go, and Fugawi confirm that their software will work with a Tungsten / EMTAC combination but the on road software seems to be limited to Mapopolis or two different TomTom products.

Two questions (both of which need the second sight I suspect)

1) Any idea when Mapopolis might sort out their mapping problems for the UK?

2) Any plans for Tom Tom to release Navigator for the Palm OS?

I know what you'll say - buy a 2210! And that may be the way I have to go, but I'd rather avoid it if it's possible. Any contributions gratefully recieved.

Ben Thumbs Up

I think the answer to both are going to be disappointing. Mapopolis did say they were going to sort the maps out in v5, but I haven't seen any head nor tail of them for the UK. We also aren't getting any replies to our email with Mapopolis, they didn't like our initial review (obviously), and it had to be told.

TomTom I don't believe will release Navigator for the Palm OS. The problem is TomTom like to create support for all units on the OS, and giving support to the whole of the Palm OS will nuke most of the best features like voice navigation etc. They could release a version for Tungstens, but there would be less sales I suspect compared to what they would get from the whole Palm OS. I think there's a good chance of them doing this once all Palm's are on an equal playing field.

Guess it's 2210 then. Bill wins again.
