XDA II and TTN 5 - advice appreciated

I have an XDA II that has been running TTN 3 successfully. I have purchased the upgrade pack for TTN 5. Regretfully, I can't trace earlier advice about installation from members.

Will the installation of TTN 5 successfully overwrite/remove the application and redundant files of TTN 3? or,

Do I have to do a hard reset first. I am a tad nervous about a hard reset as I believe it restores the XDA II to the 'factory state'? I had to pay a computer shop for an XDA II ROM upgrade (I think to 1.6) before TTN 3 would work and am concerned that this ROM version would be lost with a hard reset.

What was the concensus about the need for a hard reset?

it should overwrite your tt3 version
but if you using a xda it should be wiser to do it from a clean install as xda's have a few problems with tt
