I'm not against speed cameras in general - I think that those who flout speed limits deserve everything they get. However, it seems that the focus is soley on catching speeding motorists because it's easier to catch them than catching people who drive without insurance, drive dangerously, drive stolen cars, or drive illegal cars.

A group of drivers are taking part in a slow-drive protest along a stretch of the M4. See the story at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/wiltshire/4498551.stm.

In related new, others are pursuing a more pro-active approach:

What a sad state of affairs. I remember when I learnt to drive in the late 70's you were able to spend your time watching the road and verges ahead (which is, I presume, what a good driver should do) wheras now, an increasing amount of time is spent constantly checking your speed to make sure that you don't go the smallest amount over the speed limit, and watching out for, and negotiating 'traffic calming measures'. It seems to me, that as long as you keep to the speed limit you can drive as you like - the chances of being stopped are minimal.
