step by step way of downloading post-codes

OK, try this:
Download a postcode file to your PC. It will be in .ZIP format. Unzip it and store the .ov2 and .bmp file (contained within it) on your hard disk.

Power TTG (with your SD card in it) from the mains adaptor, but don't turn TTG on yet. [The power light should come on, though]
Connect the USB lead to TTG and to a USB port on your computer
Turn TTG on by pressing and holding the button
TTG should display a USB logo on the screen
Look in Windows Explorer and browse for TTG. It will probably show up as your E:\ drive - or a different letter depending how many drives/partiitions/CD drives etc. you have.
On the E: (or whatever) drive, find the directory (folder) called Great-Britain-Maps (assuming you're using the UK version)
Copy the .ov2 and .bmp files from your hard disk into this Great-Britain-Maps directory

Turn TTG off and disconnect the USB connection
Turn TTG on again, and tell it to navigate to a POI - and specify one of the postcodes which you have just loaded.

Doubtless somebody will tell me if I have forgotten anything!
