|
|
Hi all
I have a Garmin Nuvi 2595 and its seems to have corrupted itself. All of a sudden the device won't boot and all I get is the Garmin logo and a message saying system software missing.
Have searched various forums get and tried to get device into preboot mode, by holding down corner of screen and pressing power button etc but nothing seems to work.
Note I have not installed any new firmware, I put a new map onto the SD card, tested it and was fine. Next day I get the system software missing message.
Seems there is some life in it, when i plugged it into a new PC, a garmin usb driver was installed?
Any suggestions how I might recover / cure this device? Or is it just a paperweight now?
Thanks in advance |

I wonder if the SD card has become corrupt and what the message really means is that it can't find any maps ?
What happens in Garmin Express when you plug it in? Go for the reinstall maps option and see what happens. Also check you have the latest GE version.
Failing that I think a call to the Garmin helpdesk which will probably be a RMA return.
Strange it should do that on a map update. _________________ Satnav:

First try it without the card installed. Does it now boot OK? If so that would confirm the file(s) on the card are corrupted.
If it still doesn't work please explain which map and how you downloaded it to the card? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Hi
Thanks for your replies.
With or without the SD card install I get the same error message.
There is a map installed on the device, so even without the SD card installed, there is still a map on the device.
Also note, after I installed the map, it was all working fine. Next day, system files missing message appeared.
I've tried holding various corners of the device whilst pressing the power button as advised on some websites, but nothing seems to work.
I don't have Garmin Express installed, as I normally just download maps straight onto SD card. The map I installed was Garmin Europe road map.
Thank Andy |

just installed latest version of Garmin Express, does no recognise the device, with or without SD card installed.
Just get the same error message, system software missing.
Must be some way to stop device trying to boot system files so I can reinstall firmware?? I.e. just access it as a mass storage device? |
