US company Navdy have unveiled their forthcoming in-car heads-up display and wow seems to be the universal reaction.

Navdy brings the kind of heads-up displays found in high-end cars to everyone. Using a compact full colour projector and a transparent screen, Navdy integrates with Android and iOS smartphone apps and projects navigation instructions, music and social media apps onto the display allowing you to keep your eyes on the road. The OBDII connection allows it to access speed, RPM and a myriad of other vehicle data as well.

Navdy uses voice recognition and gestures to interact with it and the long line of hardware features include an Android operating system, iR camera for gesture control, accelerometer, OBDII connectivity, WiFi, Bluetooth, integrated speaker and audio out and a specially designed mount to allow it to be positioned optimally.

It's a lot of kit for the money, compared with Garmin's very much more basic HUD, which is only £50 less, Navdy's solution promises a lot more functionality.

So where's the catch? Well it's only available for pre-order currently at a discounted £200 with shipping expected in early 2015.

Looks very impressive - Took the plunge and placed a pre-order although not expected to see the item until 2015 - There is also an additional $30 per person referral discount so if you are looking for more than than 1 you get some discount. If any one wants to use my referral link http://www.navdy.com/j0ZcoHMI then in return I'll promise to write up my experiences

Interesting! I take it that the image on the windscreen, above, is the "artists impression" of what the driver sees, as the image is actually projected onto the screen attached to the unit?

@Jock I have a HUD in my BMW 5 Series and even though the projection is on to the Windscreen (The windscreen has a special coating for this) it doesn't appear to be on the Windscreen it appears to be at the end of the bonnet (Front of car) which is from the audio and description of the site similar in this case, except instead of using the windscreen they are using a transparent screen. Fitting a custom windscreen would definitely dent their sales potentials!! I'll let you know when it arrives. Jon

This looks very interesting, wonder when they would take payment ? now or on dispatch?

Sorry, just had another look at there site, to place an order, and at the top a statement saying "We will charge your credit card immediately upon pre-order". Not sure I would be keen on that. Anyone know how big of a company this is ?
