|
|
Hello. This is my first post, but I've lurked on this forum for a long time.
I've had my TomTom One for about five years. It's the only unit I've owned, and it's been fine.
Apart from basic navigation, I find the use of itineraries created in TYRE to be invaluable for my work and hobby. As current TomToms do not appear to offer this facility, is there any make and model that does? If there are no current designs, which used model would I need to look for?
I'd prefer a standalone satnav, as I don't really like fiddling on with phones.
At the moment my unit is working well, but I'm trying to plan for the day it fails.

Hi Orillion,
to the forum!
Yes the lack of features on the newer TomTom units is frustrating to those of us who have been loyal to the TomTom brand for years (and several TomTom devices). There has been a lot of complaints in the forums but TomTom seems to take no notice.
If you want to have a TomTom have you considered a refurbished unit? A refurbished TomTom GO 750 LIVE is £229.00 from TomTom.
The Go x50 LIVE are probably the best units (with the most features) that TomTom produced, after the x50 range the units lost features. The benefits are that you will be able to use the 750 with ease and the LIVE traffic is very good.
If you don't want a refurbished unit then (as a previously loyal TomTom customer) it saddens me to say that you will have to look at another manufacturer. You should have a look at the Garmin range which has a lot of support in these forums. Unfortunately I know nothing about Garmin at the moment but that will change if/when my 950 dies - unless of course TomTom starts to quickly add all of the missing features back to their units. However going on past performance this is unlikely.
Kind Regards, _________________ Robert.

Thanks for your thoughts.
It's a shame that TomTom do not seem to be responsive to their customers. I'm hoping that some Garmin users will post, then I'll make my decision. |

Wow!, The 750 has certainly shot up in price from a few days ago when it was only £99.99. Priced at £229 that refurbished unit with 4 year old maps is only £40 less than their brand new GO6000 flagship model with Lifetime maps and lifetime traffic.
Back on Topic. Not sure that significant number of Garmin users wil visit the TomTom side to offer enough advice.
I've just typed in "Garmin Itineraries" into the search box at the top right of this page and returned lots of replies.
Here's one to get you started.

Suggest you do a bit of research, enough to create a short list of potential purchases and then post a question in the Garmin pages
Let us know here your final decisions here please.
EDIT - Just realised that the link above is to a two year old post. Other search returns shall be more current. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

There's no "Buy now" button, so I'm hoping it's just a "place holder" on the webpage ready for the imminent release of more refurbs at the previous price.
Either that or TT have realised how much better their old models are than their new ones and are pricing accordingly. _________________ Anita

As suggested, I posted a message to the Garmin section. Additionally, I asked if there was a unit that might accept a reversing camera.
This was suggested:

There is one unflattering review on Amazon:

I think I'll hang on for a while before committing myself. |

If you are yet to decide, I have had a 750 for about 3/4 years now, excellent unit, great features, easy to use and the Live traffic works very well.
If you decide to go for a Tom Tom I would go down the route suggested. You won't regret it _________________ GO750 Live

It would be, if only there was a "Buy Now" button like there is for the other refurbs! _________________ Anita
