I've just received my satnav today, so, having done the updates, I've been playing with the menus.

One problem has arisen : having navigated to a few family addresses, and saved them as Favourites, the unit is closing down while I'm editing them.

On Restart, I go through the initial screens again, and the favourites have disappeared.

This has now happened about half a dozen times, which suggests to me a real fault. Naturally, I'm being careful that my finger isn't resting on the power button.

Is this a known fault, and is there any way way to correct it. I'm hoping that it's only during editing that the problem occurs.

Glad you managed the updates.

I have a 2460 so not identical but have never seen these crash issues while editing (though it has crashed en-route a couple of times - a pain on a motorway when you have a PIN set).

Check you have all relevant software updates and perhaps do a Reset. You will lose all settings - and anything else added unless on SD card.

The power button has got me many times, right under a finger when holding the unit.

Hi again fruit.

I'm wondering if it's connected to the software update problem I had yesterday.

The software version is shown as 7.10 and GPS Firmware 4.14.10. Where do I check these?

If I do a Reset will I also lose the map updates I did yesterday?

System Settings-> About should show software info etc.

Connecting to mydashboard should show these too I think but I could be wrong. Will certainly show if updates available - although not necessarily reliably. (I've been updating the Traffic info for months now and nothing seems to change, but still works).

A reset should not lose the map update, others go back to default state.

Edit: Another suggestion is to try Garmin's webupdater, generally felt to be much more reliable than other methods. Requires allowing a plugin to be installed in your browser.

I used Webupdater, which said my software was up to date. Anyway, I've since had other problems.

I was playing around with putting a 'via' into a route, and then looking at the instructions. You'd expect the results to be consistent, but I had four different kinds:

1. Able to read and follow both parts of the route : 1

2. Refusing to show second part : 3

3. Shutdowns : 6

4. Whole thing froze up : 2

I also found the 'intersection' category a bit short on possibilities. I like to go north by starting on the M1 from the M25, then swithching to the A1 from J13. Apparently, there's no road junction between the A421 and the A1.

The unit has a lot on the plus side. The maps are up to date, showing both the new layout at J13 of the M1 and the Hindhead Tunnel. It starts up very quickly, and finds satellites within seconds (if I'm sitting at the back door; it loses them if I sit in my usual seat). It also responds quickly to commands, and doesn't have the delay of the tom tom, or the 'obey two commands' if you press the screen again, in case it didn't work the first time.

But if it's going to shut down frequently (it also did it while I was looking at a route) I can get that with my old TT. The main reason I looked at the Garmin was that the LIVE subscription on my TT had run out again, and they wanted £48 to renew it.

I'll leave it for a day, then have another play with it. If it's still shutting down, it's back to Amazon, I'm afraid.

It sounds as though you have a bad device there so return might be best option I think

Hi, I have just got a 2595LMT myself and have been having the same issues with the unit resetting when editing favourites. It is intermittent and only does it occasionally but it is annoying as hell. Hence me searching for it this morning finding this thread!

I have a variation on this. It usually shuts down immediately I hit the Go icon after planning a route. I have used Web Updater to reinstall the latest software at Garmin's suggestion, but it persists. It's usually worse after updating data on the micro SD card, so I was wondering if it could be anything to do with that?

After installing the latest firmware you ought to do a hard reset. If the fault then persists you can be fairly sure the device is faulty. However most unusual behaviour is solved with a hard reset Wink

If by hard reset, you mean holding down the on/off button for about 10 seconds until the unit starts up, then I have already done that. I'll keep my eye on this over the next week or so and if it persists, get back to Garmin support.

Thanks.

No, that's a soft reset. Hard reset instructions are here, taken from Garmin FAQs:

Note: A master reset will erase all favorites1 and will restore your device to the default factory settings so you might want to back up your favourites first.

1.Start with the device OFF and unplugged from power
2.Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
3.Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the device ON
4.Release the power button when the device powers ON
◦You will see a new message: "Do you really want to erase all user data?"
5.Remove your finger from the touch screen when this message displays
6.Touch Yes
◦If text language is not in English, this is the button on the right
The device will now reset. Follow the on-screen prompts and then place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

1Although the master reset will erase all saved favorites, any loaded custom points of interest will remain intact on the device.
