According to a report on the Garmin forums don't upgrade to the new POI Loader v 2.7.0
It seems that if you opt to save the file to the device it saves it out as a .POI instead of a .GPI which the device can't decipher.
Saving to the PC works OK though.

Is there any way to revert back to the previous version. I have v2.7
and my nuvi 1300 does not give an alert for mobile cameras. It does however alert for static cameras. This only seems to have happened last week.
Thanks |

That sounds like another issue as one CSV file is the same as another to POI. _________________ DashCam:

I downloaded latest POI loader last week on my laptop and happened to have to load the POI directly to the device (NUVI 1490) as there was no SD card in it, and it worked correctly (as .GPI) so they have updated this now.

I don't normally use the "Save to Device" option, so I'd not noticed this bug. I just gave it a quick test with a couple of Nüvis (300,710,1300) - in all cases it worked fine and created a .GPI file...
However, if you use the "Save to Device" option, but select an SD card it creates a .POI file instead. The "Save to Computer" option successfully creates a .GPI file.
The problem seems to be when using the "Save to Device" option and targetting a device where the GarminDevice.xml is missing or corrupt. This file would not normally exist on an SD card. It is recreated at every boot on the device itself. Occasionally, this file is corrupt; I don't know what circumstances cause this, but I have certainly seen it happen, on more than one device.
So: if creating Custom POIs on an SD card, always use the "Save to Computer" option. If creating Custom POIs using the "Save to Device" option, confirm that POI Loader is displaying the "Unit ID" (which confirms it read GarminDevice.xml). If it isn't - and is showing a drive letter instead - remove and re-connect the device, which should recreate GarminDevice.xml
I wonder what the intended purpose of a .POI file is?

its probably the format which allows the user no end of configuration for his own requirements, which is why it is not enabled |
