Interesting that the 2GB map is MORE than 2 GB and the web sites say this:
Users of devices with limited memory may not be able to install the complete map on their device, but will be able to choose between and switch map zones using TomTom HOME.
Isn't that interesting...........
(reading between the lines, maybe Home will allow users with, say, 4 gb sdhc cards, to load the whole thing!!) _________________ David |

thought the whole reason for the delay was tomtom trying to shrink it to below 2gb? _________________ From TomTom One to a 730T, then a 930T, now a 1005... |

I see the v9 navcore lets you update favourites etc between maps via TT home, perhaps the latest version of home will mean you can switch maps easily via home? Maybe they will split the euopean maps into smaller chunks so you can load what bits you want and change them when required _________________ TomTom ONE Series 30 (v8) & TMC traffic

The 850 W&CE map is one large map, 2318KB.
Oddly it carried over all my map corrections from v845 and downloaded some OV2 mapshare POI corrections. _________________ Drivelux |

I've been offered one of four zones. I hope that you can change it later, for free. And even without subscription... Otherwise I'll be quite annoyed as the mediterranean area doesn't include Germany. |

One would presume that we would be allowed to change for FREE
However, this IS TomTom we are talking about..... _________________ XL LIVE IQ Routes (Europe)

From the select map zone page
"You can change the active zone in use on your device. Go to "Manage my device" in the main menu in TomTom HOME, then the "Items on my device" tab. Click the "Change map zone" link next to the map on your device." |

Not good for users of the XL IQ and XL IQ Live though with the USB 1 ports as large data transfers can take some considerable time, I wonder how long before we see posts from people going on holiday with the wrong map region loaded!
This makes the inclusion of a memory card slot OR a large amount of built in flash memory all the more vital on any TomTom device - Mike |

Doesn't that seem to imply the whole map (all zones) is installed on the device and the user is just activating a different zone?
What am I missing.......... _________________ David |

I suspect you download the whole map, install the bit you selected and then when you change the region it'll load the region you want from your download stored on your PC....
Poor if you are travelling across Europe though...
Installed ok first go. Have to re-do my PGPSW alerts again but there you go... |

It looks to me that there are five maps available for download, the complete map and four partially overlapping maps. When you download the complete map it is only one single map and not the selection. If you had limited memory you would have to download four separate zones and install and uninstall as necessary.
I have taken the US map off my Go which gives me plenty of room for the full Europe map. _________________ Drivelux |

Now both my house and my inlaws house are missing from the maps. If i do a postcode search for my house it only covers numbers 1 and 2. I live at 8 and there are 30-40 houses in that postcode. My in-laws postcode finds an adjacent road as does another family members postcode........
Well if i ever needed any more evidence not to give TT any more money (my LIVE Services expired last week - using RDS TMC at the moment) i've just got it...
I've just requested a refund on the Map Update Service from TT.... |
