does anyone know if the car mounts built in speaker will work without having to plug it into the car? i can only get it to work by plugging it into the car for power. i would have expected it to be powered from the tomtom itself. |

Indeed it requires 12v power. It is designed to be plugged in and if it were used in the way you describe then the RIDER's battery would have a very short life. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Yes, I confirm it needs to be plugged into the car (to power the speaker and charge the unit), its a good unit which makes the Rider 2 very versatile.
And you dont get very far without power plugged in on the Rider, especially if your using a bluetooth device to hear it. _________________ Tomtom Rider 500 EU, VW Discover Pro (UK/EU), VW Discover Pro MIB2 (Aus), Audi MMI (Aus), CamerAlert for Android |

Hi
I get 3 hours out of my rider 2 on battery with BT, but not linked to my phone.
But as already stated you need the power for the speaker in the car mount. |
