I have a 720 and a 4Gb SDHC Card, now I'm sure I read it somewhere on here that if you copy the files from the 720 to the card, Tom Tom will run from the card if present.
Just wondered if someone could give me an idiots guide on this, as I would like to put the latest update on the card to try it without interfering with the 720 itself. _________________ Regards

According to This Topic, the answer is yes, it will run from the Card. _________________ Richard

Copy everything from the device to the computer, then copy the whole lot from the computer to your SDHC card.
Insert the card to the device and boot the unit, make sure it works then connect it to the computer.
Using Home make sure you have the Memory card selected as the location you are wanting to update.
Use TT Home to download and install the latest application to your memory card.
With the card inserted the device will use the latest Navcore, if you take the SDHC card out it will revert to the older Navcore installed to the device, this method of dual booting the device can be very handy when trying out new versions of software. If you decide you are happy with the new Navcore you can remove the SDHC card, connect the device to TT Home and update the software to the latest standard - Mike |

It's sometimes not QUITE that simple.
For example, I keep an old v7 software version on a spare SD card for my 720 (so I can play games on my TomTom once in a while).
If I use that, I have to go through all the basic settings again (language, left or right handed, map colour scheme etc.) before I can get started.
Then when I go back to the normal software, I have to do it all over again.
Presumably this is because of an incompatibility in a settings file between the two versions. |
