Does the 740 support reading aloud of text messages. Mine is grey'ed out, is that because it doesn't support it or because I haven't set something. In fact as a general question, do unsupported functions that are only available on the 940 appear as grey'ed buttons on other models or not at all ? _________________ Tony

Reading aloud of text messages will depend entirely on the capability of your mobile phone when connected up via Bluetooth to the device, if it works it will be a selectable option, if the phone isn't supported the menu option will be greyed out - Mike |

Thanks, that's very helpful. Do you happen to know the technical name of the actual BlueTooth services required, so I can ask around the Apple forums. _________________ Tony

The iPhone doesn't support text messaging protocols, so don't bother! |

That's a bit of a sweeping statement, it certainly supports some protocols since it supports text messaging. However, when I said Apple forums I was actually referring to the jailbreaking community who might well be in a position to support additional protocols given that they do make alterations to the baseband code. As it happens I currently use my iPhone as a modem to my laptop which "the iPhone doesn't support". _________________ Tony

Okay, if you are happy to use a hacked bluetooth stack on the iPhone, then it may of course support the required messaging protocols. But the iPhone as supplied by Apple will bond and allow hands-free nicely, but nothing more. We can but hope they add more in future updates. |

re iPhone and TomTom 740 - it does also support import of contacts (name/number) and recent call info from phone to TomTom over Bluetooth. _________________ Paul Webster |
