|
|
I've finally had enough of it. In the two weeks I've owned the tomtom bluetooth gps, the receiver has locked up 4 times. The first three times, the blue light went red and refused to go away until I discharged the battery and plugged it in again. Actually, on one occasion it spontaneously started working after a 2 second charge. Tomtom's help site (!) says to let the battery discharge....
Great. That's just what I look for in a navigation system. The chance that on trying to use it, it might just "not work" for a few hours while the battery is discharged and recharged. That's fine. It's how I want to use it, after all, when I use it, I don't actually need it. And if I ever really did need it, what's wrong with a few hours delay anyway?
Seriously though, on the last occasion it went wrong, the right hand LED went green continuously, and no amount of discharging and recharging could persuade it to work again.
Navcity are apparently going to swap it out for the bluetooth unit that comes with the navman.
What a load of rubbish! TomTom ought to be exposed for their crookedness here - how can they possibly manufacture this crap? I would be more tolerant if it wasn't for all the other stories I'd read about other people having the same problem, and the bloke at navcity admitting in despair that he doesn't really want to exchange my unit for another one the same, as he reckoned they're so unreliable I'd probably be calling him again in a few weeks to exchange again. |

Well, I think they (TomTom have been pretty exposed already, and they grudgingly ackonwledge that their receiver has a problem (or "had" as they told us at CeBit - according to TomTom staff they found and corrected an error with the firmware, so newer receivers are supposedly much more stable.).
If you look for stability get one of the Emtac recievers. Every single problem I personally had with those was caused by the person staring at the box. _________________ Lutz

It's a bit inconvienient if you are lost, your receiver locks up and then you have to wait 6 hours to discharge the battery though. |

You only need to remove two screws and the battery is on a lead with a plug on it. Unplug it and start again. That would invalidate any warranty if they found out, but unless you damage it, how would they? |

i wonder how many tt bt gps receivers are failing. i got mine in august last year and no problems so far. i had a few cases when i thought i was having the same problem as others, but they were false alarms.
is there a poll of tt bt gps owners with yes/no whether it failed and had to be replaced? _________________ tomtom 940 live/tt active dock holder/tt rds-tmc traffic receiver usb |

Will they will be offering firmware upgrades to existing customers then? |

really you need to charge the receiver and discharge it straight out of the box though it would help if tomtom put this info in the box mine being woring fine since doing this _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Oh how The guys at Tom Tom must cringe at the complaints in this forum about there bluetooth receiver.
Iam another that was having probs after a couple of weeks trouble free.
I now have what looks like a disco light unit on my dash, BUT.....its working fine, all but the lights
I have had 2 red lights, red and perm green light even when no charger is attatched, and red with orange light, BUT.... it still works
Iam so confused with this unit.
One major issue i have with it, is it doesnt like to be over charged this results in 2 red lights and you cannot then turn it off, once you have 2 red lights it wont play ball and will not get a fix, I have a work around for this now! go into the gps section of tom tom 3 un tick the check box let it do its thing and re tick it and away it goes again.
Its completely mad
Also the turning off procedure of the bluetooth receiver is a little unreliable and takes some getting used to.

I have also got a TT3 BT recently, and within 2 days the receiver showed a red light instead of the blue, With no bluetooth connection, and I would like to add it was when I needed it to work as well......................so I wasn't best pleased, I tryed disconnecting the battery, but the error stayed.
I tryed to re-charge it from my car, also with no luck.
But, when I tryed again at HOME ( from a 240v socket ) it released the red error light straight away, and it has now worked ok since, fingers crossed.
Hope this might help others. |

My first TTBT GPS lasted about 3months before the blue led stopped flashing, I tried the discharge/charge routine, still dead. To TT's credit they have a very fast turnaround for returns, I had a new one within a week. It lasted a week and died in the same way, that went back and another new one (3rd) arrived a couple of days ago. I cant get this to communicate with the pda (HP4150) at all, the leds flash correctly, but no joy. I tried pairing, re-installing - 2.24 still nothing.
I also tried installing GPS3.01, but this will not install it comes up an error although I can reinstall the previous GPS2.09 so the hardware is all OK.
Anyone else had this particular problem ?
Also TT seem to have removed the facility to open a new question on the support pages, that is sort of burying your head in the sand approach to customer care, or dont care. |

the only problem i have is if i leave the tt unit on and the comenction to the plug break whitch is in a locker on the passenger side of the cab and i let the battery drain if on the few occaions it does lock up i cant reach it because it sits in the sun roof of the truck ( scaniatopline 4 series) but really i havent had that many problems _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone.
