Fujitsu Ten Widescreen TomTom based device spotted - AVN4430

Two years ago Eclipse, a US based manufacturer chose CES in Las Vegas to launch a head-unit with built-in TomTom, the AVN2210. Although it took over a year to reach these shores it is now available as a factory fit option in some Toyota's.

Eclipse have since been acquired by Fujitsu and it seems that a wide screen version has now been developed, the AVN4430.

The design is very similar to the earlier model with a custom wide-screen TomTom unit integrated into the frame of the double-DIN head-unit. Although little else is known about the unit as yet the image clearly shows it has TMC which is interesting and is that a microSD slot I see at top right? Maybe this is based on an x40 device?

We'll keep investigating but all will doubtless be revealed at CES 2009 in Vegas this in January 2009.

Looks nice, but they first need to decide who supports the device.
When I contacted Eclipse about a problem with my Toyota fitted unit they said I need to contact TomTom who in turn said I needed to contact Toyota Shocked

More information on this device appearing now that the FCC's testing documentation has appeared here.

Code Name DUB 1, the actual circuit board names it 'DUBLIN', the device appears to have a dual purpose design with a removable cover for the docking connector thus allowing it to be used perhaps in another car with an accessory dock perhaps? It also has an internal GPS Antenna and power so this could well be the intention.

The user manual found answers the mystery of the TMC, it's plain 'ol RDS which is disappointing as it had been thought it might be x40 based.

Google Chrome pops up a security alert that it's being redirected to a scam site (BIG red screen) with an f in front of the correct site. Not at home at the moment and using Explorer here, which gives just a standard Security Certificate issue. I'll forward the exact text of the Chrome warning in a bit.

Very odd, I'm getting that certificate mismatch error too but if you choose to ignore it you end up at the correct FCC website. Possibly human error on their part?

TomTom contacted me late last night requesting the removal of the FCC images saying that they were confidential. These documents were in the public domain (on the FCC site) on the day that they were published here and had been since 25th Nov.

TomTom's letter to the FCC here requesting a further 45 day extension blocking any pictures of the Dublin device from public release acknowledges this and was sent on the 11/12/08, two whole days after we published them.

Last night I removed the post until I had discussed the matter with Darren. I have now re-instated it, but as a compromise to TomTom have removed the image of the circuit board.
