pocketgpsworld.comGoogle have confirmed they have stopped using TeleAtlas as the map data provider for Google Maps in the US.

If you look at US Google Map data you will note the absence of the TeleAtlas Copyright message at the bottom of the page.

Google have used their data gathering experience to harvest data from other parties as well as the rich data contained in Streetview and and satellite/aerial photography to create their own map data.

In the same way as MapShare, Google now allow you to report map errors directly to them.

What this means financially for TeleAtlas is not known but it's clear that Google do not intend to stop there and will doubtless be planning to reduce the bill and take over themap data supply for other territories in due course.

A contract with AND to start supplying European street-level mapping is already signed according to a report this morning. TeleAtlas may be gone from Google Europe maps by year's end if not sooner.

Yeah, well, for starters, it means my entire freaking street has disappeared from Google Maps. Was bad enough when it didn't have the house number. Now the whole street went poof. So that's why Fedex is having he hardest times finding me these days. I was wondering. Oh well, we were gonna move anyway.
