Apologies for the double post but my original thread http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=66344 has now gone off topic.

After managing to download and install WE 715 which was the subject of the other topic, the device now won't see the map. Going to Switch Map, the Canary Islands is the only option. I have done both a reset with a paper clip (which turned the device off but I had to turn it on again normally, is that correct) & restored factory settings.

I had the original WE map on the SD card and now when I use explorer to view it there is still a folder called Western_Europe which still contains all my POIs so is that still the original or does the update overwrite the files?

There is also a 2Kb folder called maps containing a file also called Western_Europe and I think the extension is .ast but I'm not certain as I'm working from memory and can't look at it again at present.

Before I deleted the download from the office computer, I also asked it to install the map to the device but that hasn't helped.

Now when I try "Use free map guarantee" Home tells me that I have the latest map.

Does anyone have any answers to this please? Otherwise I'll have to move the updated map to my computer and reinstall the original v7.05.1480.

I think you may find you dont have room on the card. If you are useing the original card then for sure you will have to delete the original set of maps.

Sorry, I should have said it's a 4gb SDHC card. the Go 720 comes as standard without a card but with 4gb internal. The only reason I moved the original map to the card was because I thought the new one would install internally leaving the original intact. It doesn't work like that. It goes wherever the original was.

Now i am confused. I have a 720T, same thing.
My unit has 2gb of internal memory, god knows what the card is, but knowing TomTom it will be barely big enough to get the maps on.
I do know people have been having issues with loading maps onto anything other than the original card but i think that this applies more to back ups etc.
See what the brainiacs at support come up with.
They will probably get you to delete anything not in a folder..........
But wait for their word.
There are a lot of people here who would get you out of strife but i can only assume their working day is keeping them busy.
Have a troll through the posts i am sure there are related threads to your problem.

Sorry, it's me that's confused. Just checked the spec and it is 2gb internal, but I had also bought a 4gb card to load mp3s etc on.

Until last night I had WE 7.050 on the card working fine. I downloaded v715 last night and now have one WE map on the card, which isn't recognised. I don't know what version that one is now but there is only one on the card.

I also installed v715 internally from the computer, and that isn't recognised either. But checking the latest map guarantee on HOME tells me I have the latest map, so HOME can see it.

I told TT Support all this and the reply asks for me to tell them the device code etc, and the map versions internally & on the card (which I can't do) then they'll tell me if v715 is running. I think they should be able to tell from my question that no WE map is running. Only Canary Islands v7.050

Do you have an original back up you could install?.
Perhaps getting back to the original config would be a start and then tell support the new maps will not load so can i have a direct link.
I have just received a response from support about an unrelated matter, blimey i sometimes wonder why i bother with them. I got a page of totally unrelated issues and what was relative you could got from the manual. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Let's start again.
Problem- You downloaded the map onto the office PC, but you deleted it? That was probably a bad move before checking it worked!
Answer - you should be able to re-download the map for a year after purchase. So that's OK. But, there is a trick you need to get it downloaded again.

As your original problem was that you couldn't get a successful download at home, you're probably going to have to do it at work again.

Not sure WHERE you deleted it on the work PC, but the trick to get a new download is to delete the map in C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads. Delete everything that is in this folder.

Then when you come to ADD the map to your Go, the first thing Home will ask is where you want to store the map - the internal memory or the SD card.

I think in your case, it would be best to use Home to move maps between Internal memory and SD card too.

Using Explorer, look into your map folder for a file called Western_Europe.pna, double click and look at it with Notepad.

My backup with 705.1480 contains entries....
ID=Western_Europe.pna
705
build=1480

My backup of map v710.1561 says ...
710
build=1561

That's where you'll see what map version it is (I haven't got map v715).

I am confused by you saying you have installed from the PC? - I thought you could only install using Home.

Bit of basics here please.

What have you got by way of folders in the internal memory?
What have you got by way of folders on the SD card?

Ooops I see Andy has posted - he's a guru, so ignore my stuff except for how to tell what map from Explorer.

I'm no guru...
We usually get there by joint effort. I hadn't thought to check the .pna versions.

Most of these issues would be easy to fathom if you had the person's PC and satnav in front of you. The puzzle is to work it out at a distance! That's why we are so keen on finding out certain details and get obsessive about details like exact filenames etc!

Don't put yourself down - help is a matter of attitude and you've got the right one. Thumbs Up

No probs Dennis, but i am not as knowledgable as most here. I can and do chip in but when it gets too technical i have to back off and leave it to the guru's.
I wasn't being smart when i posted it, it was more that on re-reading and taking note of andys post about starting again, i thought perhaps that was the sensible option as andy will more than likely get him on the right tram from the start.

That's good to hear.. on first reading it DID sound like you were rather "miffed".

I'll repeat though.. I certainly haven't got all the answers.
EVERYBODY's input helps, and it's often all to easy for the "regulars" to miss something obvious because we mistakenly assume that it's been thought of.

Didn't sound miffed to me - maybe I'm just a thick skinned Aaaard Northern Old Git? Very Happy
