Hi
I'm new to this forum so can someone please explain what is meant with mapshare? What is it that's different with mapshare compared to the maps supplied prior to mapshare?
Do I have mapshare? if not what is it, if anything, am I missing?
PS mine is a; TT one xl europe version 7.162. Map: Western Europe V675.1409
Any info/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, with maps 6.75 you do not have mapshare. You would need to upgrade to Maps 7.10 . Your application software is fine.
Whether you need it or not is purely your choice, i have it and use but personally i have real reservations about it but again that's my choice.
what it does is it allows you to report things that are not quite right on the original maps, for instance your high street may one day become No entry or one way or blocked to traffic entirely, mapshare would allow you to report it for verification then one day it may appear as a correction or put right in the next release of maps.
There are, i'm sure a few more bits to it, but generally this is what it does. |

My reply was little "short" you do infact need version 7,X software AND version 675 (or newer) Maps in order to use MapShare, some devices have probably been upgraded from 660 mapping straight to 705 or even 710.
The HelpMe function is not map dependent at all, but you do need the HelpMe folder on the device complete with its contents, this has only very recently been made available from TomTom - Mike |

Well there's another lesson learn't Mike. I knew about TomTom not making the files available to x10 app downloads thanks to Andy but i always thought you needed app 7 software which i didn't think you could get without 7 version maps.
I don't know mate, i have been looking and playing with so many new toys lately i got myself stumped. Just as well there are people here who know what they are doing!!.
I was telling Darren in another post that i never use all the extras on my device but use it only as a sat nav..... now you know why. |

Not all 675 maps!
I have 675.1322 and using v7 software I get "This map is out of date and not supported by Map Share technology.................."
Map Share does work with my recently purchased v710.1561 Western Europe map. Main problem is that the newer TeleAtlas map has more errors than the older NavTeq 675.1322

To put you all out of your misery, , you need
Quote: | TomTom Map Share requires application version 7.xxx and map version 675.1409 (or higher) |
So you SHOULD have Mapshare already. You have to "join" by using TT Home.
Also, to correct the details of what you've been told Map Share does...
Map Share allows you to make INSTANT changes to some details of your own map:
1. Block/unblock a road in one or both directions,
2. Alter the direction of a one-way street,
3. Correct the name of a street,
4. Add a new POI to one of the built-in POI categories,
5. Edit an existing POI in one of the built-in categories.
You can then choose whether or not to share those corrections with everyone else that has Map Share.
Equally important, you can choose to download corrections from other Map Share users and from TomTom.
Finally, Map Share allows you to REPORT several other more major corrections:
1. Add/Delete a Road
2. Add/Delete a roundabout
3. Add/remove a motorway entrance/exit
4. Add/remove a city (!)
5. Change a speed limit
6. Correct a postcode
All of these are (at the moment) not reflected on your map, but will hopefully be included in a future map release.
TT might explain it better... see here for the basics:

and for a list of Map Share topics, see here:
