Hello there Smile
A few years ago I purchased the following bundle
H P iPAQ Pockett PC h2210
Navman 4400
Smart ST v1
Recently I had my bluetooth Navman 4400 stolen Mad , which left me without a satnav system. To replace it with the current 4400 series is going to cost me about a £100. But I have seen many other Bluetooth receivers for sale, so my question is, do I have to stick to the 4400 or will some of the other makes such as the Globalsat BTT-100 work with the smart ST software. Or do you have any other suggestions so that I might be able to take into consideration. Thank you

SmartSt will work with any Bluetooth GPS that uses the serial port profile and sends NMEA sentences - don't worry too much if this technobable to you, as to my knowledge, it is also the default standard they all use. You may have to jump through a couple of hoops getting the BT pairing sorted, depending how recent you PDA is - early ones were sometimes problimatic.

I am out of touch with what is avalible in GPS recievers now, there are so many that are competing in this space - look at the reviews for battery life and sensitivity (At least as good as SiRF III). Consider if replaceable batterys (AA's) vs rechargeable internal battery is important to you etc.

For me personally, I would want one with a hardware power on and then give it power from my cars ignition. That way when the car is started, the GPS turns on. The Navman did not have this, so you had to turn it on, turn on the PDA etc, just to get going.
