I really would like to hear the advice of people here...

I would like to buy a new pocket pc navigation to replace my old (now decided) pretec...
I have the following options:

Ipaq 2210 + tomtom package (wired leadtek 9532)
Or
Ipaq 2210 + Fortuna xtarc compact flash

Both will be roughly the same price round 600 euros

What will be the better solution?

If you primary use (90%) is going to be in-car use, then I'd go for the cabled setup. It will give you a single cable in which to power the GPS Receiver and charge the iPAQ at the same time.

The problem with Compact Flash cards in-car, is most of them have the patch antenna facing back at you rather than looking directly up at the sky, so they're not optimally positioned for in-car use. Compact Flash was really designed more as an outdoor card because the PDA won't be vertical it will be more at 45 degrees or horizontal whilst you are walking which will give the card an optimal view of the sky. Saying that, most CF cards will work in-car, but I prefer using a cabled or Bluetooth setup for in-car use.

One thing they don't tell you in these offers is you do need purchase storage cards, a UK map will take around 100mb+ so a 128mb or 256mb card will need to be purchased in most cases.

thanks for your answer dave...

I decide to go with the cf gps solution...my story is that my pretect compact GPS died.I though the pda was also dead e740 but was able to revive it so i dont need a new pda. (I alreadyhave a 256 SD card)

From your experience and review how is the fortuna GPS cf reciver... is it better or worse then the pretec compac GPS? would you recommend another one.

I like the xtrac option Although I wont be using it. I leave next to holland so all is flat here.....

since I leave in germany I don't have many options....

BTW do you know or seen a post what will be that tax if iorder from the US (semesons) to germany?

Thanks,
Nir

I recently bought (Thursday) this bundle:

http://www.holux-uk.com/Products/DL-270-T/DL-270-T.htm

As I wanted to be able to take it out of my work van & put in my car easily, therefore went for CF. Never used GPS before & can understand what Dave says above about line of site but I've not had any problems so far in the van (not tried in car yet but has no roof so I reckon that'll be OK :D ) Was out today & was getting 5-7 satalites. The good thing bout the above bundle is that the CF card comes with a wired mouse if need be, so best of both worlds. Plan of trying it when I get time to see the difference it makes...
