Help
I have a Dell Axim X51v with WM5 Mobile
I have purchased TomTom6 for Pocket PC/PDA
I have purchased GPS CF Card Receiver-FGPCFCD01
Cant get Tom Tom to recognise GPS Receiver no matter what config i use
although i must admit i am not to sure if i need to fully understand the Ports involved when config Windows GPS settings
Is this a Tom Tom Software Compat Issue?
Have i wasted my money?
Is there a solution? |

Welcome to the forum, try a search using x51v and it will return a number of threads, the x51v would appear to be problematic with certain CF GPS devices, some people resorted to reg edits but most gave up to be honest and went for a BT solution instead IIRC - Mike |

I have the same issue, but I'm running TTN5 at the moment on my X51V.
I contacted who I believe to be the supplier of my CF GPS CF card, it was a couple of years ago on Ebay) and got the following reply which I have not yet done or checked.
HERE IT IS CUT&PASTE FROM MY EMAIL MESSAGE;
Select tomtom gps and the comport as cf_generic.
Make sure you are outside with the gps plugged into the pda.
The first fix can take upto 1 hour. You cannot be moving when its trying to
get a fix.
If you software does not recognise it then do a hard reset on your pda and
then reinstall tomtom.
If using Tomtom V5 the settings are :
HOW TO SET UP A CF CARD GPS RECEIVER ON TOMTOM 5
(1) GO THE TOMTOM MENU SCREEN
(2) CLICK ON CHANGE PREFERENCES
(3) CLICK ON THE MORE ARROW ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT
(4) CLICK ON THE MORE ARROW ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT AGAIN
(5) CLICK ON THE MORE ARROW ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT AGAIN
(6) CLICK ON SHOW GPS STATUS
(7) CLICK ON CONFIGURE
(8) CHOOSE OTHER CABLE NMEA GPS
(9) AND THEN CLICK ON SELECT
(10) LEAVE BAUD RATE ON 4800
(11) CLICK ON DONE
(12) THEN CLICK ON CF_CARD GENERIC
THAT’S IT THIS THEN SETS UP THE CF GPS RECEIVER ON YOUR POCKET PC
If you have the Globalsat cf gps the VTG and WAAS settings need to be
enabled in order for it to work with Tomtom V5.
For Dell Axim X51/V
Del Axim and GPS CF cards the fix follows, it is quite involved.
You need to upgrade the Rom to version A12, go to the Dell website
http://support.euro.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?docid=1A9C27DB28CEDC0BE0401E0A55172D13&c=uk&l=en&s=gen
this site also has full instruction on how to carry out the update.
Once done the card works well, port settings are Prog port com 2, hardware port 7.
END CUT&PASTE:
The ROM update sounds interesting!
I will put another update here if it works for me. let me know if it works for you. |

Dell stressed that if the PDA is disconected from ActiveSync in this process the X51V will be TOTALLY unuseable as a result.
I'm just starting this process, so cross your fingers for me. |
All done, I'm now running with ROM A12, just need to get ActiveSync to sync ALL my Calendar entries which it's NOT doing yet. TomTom re-installed, but, have not yet tried the GPS CF receiver. More news later. |
