I gave my Classic to my brother when I bought the 700, he wants to update the maps but he also wants to be able to have the complete maps of europe (not major roads of europe), if a bigger (2GB) SD card is bought and the latest maps are bought from TomTom will this work?
Just out of interest what are the latest version of european maps and what size are they?
Thanks. |

2gb SD is fine & the latest W Euro map downloadable from TT is v675
PS ensure he uses TTHome to upgrade his software to the latest available for his unit. |

I'll be doing it for him, will the classic processor be able to cope with the extra map sizes?
Thanks again. |

I don't see why it shouldn't. |

The actual WE_V675 map is pants as shown by all the posts in the thread about the current maps.
Better to get the WE_&_CE_V675 map which is 1.7GB and only cost a little more.

Go for the WE & CE Europe map it has better detail and costs less than a tenner more IIRC - sound advice from Vroomfondel.
As for the 2GB card make sure you get one that is fast enough, some of the cheaper cards are too slow to work with any TomTom device.
And before you start make sure you have a full back up of the original card on the PC, to be honest it is worth copying the original card to the new 2GB card and make sure that works in the Classic before upgrading the application and map - Mike |

Thanks for all the advice, I've got both TomTom's backed up on my computer and on DVD.
Which brand of SD card is the best one to buy regarding speed etc?
Thanks again. |

I used a ByteStor 2GB Hi-Speed 80x and the Classic had no trouble with it.
Generally any reputable brand that has a speed of greater than 50x should be OK. _________________ Richard

According to the TOMTOM downloads site, Maps of WE&CE is not available for the classic GO - the site rcommends Maps of WE only. Is this a problem? TomTom Home clearly lists Maps of WE&CE (910/700 ONLY)
I'm trying to upgrade myself and this is confusing me! |

Someone has the WE&CE Maps on a ONE. Therefore there should be no reason why it can't be used on a Classic. It might be a bit slow in searching names, that's all.
See near the end of This Page which mentions this subject. _________________ Richard

Abject apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but....I've followed the various threads regarding the 'de-scoped' map of WE compared to the W&CE map. As has been said, when trying to purchase a European map for my 'original' TT One, the only choice given by TT website is the WE map. Can someone give me a definitive reason for this? - which might answer the next question (yes, you've guessed...) can I download and use the W&CE map on my TT1? (I assume that it's a TeleAtlas offering, not Navteq, hence puzzled why it isn't offered by TT). Naturally, I would ensure an appropriately-sized SD card (oh boy, haven't these cards got cheap now?!) _________________ TT GO app on Android Phone

As ever, thanks for an excellent and speedy reply; I wish other sites were as well-moderated, knowledgeable and useful.... _________________ TT GO app on Android Phone

There doesn't seem to be any reason for it at all. The only thing I can guess is that the website design was left in the hands of someone who doesn't understand what the hardware is capable of, so was trying to be "helpful".
All it does is cause a lot of grief and confusion. |

Agreed; and my understanding is that the later units aren't hugely more powerful than the older, either in terms of CPU speed or addressable memory. So, might be taking advantage of TT's 20% discount. Thanks for taking the time/trouble to comment. _________________ TT GO app on Android Phone
