Does anyone know of software for the PPC that will take information from my GPS antenna (the Aldi/Medion bundle) and give me details of 0-60 times, standing quarter mile ET/speed, flying mile etc etc yawn.
This'd be great for me and my petrol head nerds (I mean buddies) that spend hours in the pub going on about whos car is the quickest / fastest etc.
This can't be rocket science, if I knew anything about programming I'm sure it'd be a doddle, but the last time I tried to program anything it was a ZX81:
10 PRINT "STEVE"
20 GOTO 10
Ahhh happy days... |

Simply get a tool that does GPS logging (it's also invcluded in some programs) and make sure you get the RMC data every second (by the way, that's the best you can get with standard receivers, and may not be precise enough for this 0-60 crap. _________________ Lutz

Consumer GPS Receivers have an update frequency of 1Hz (1/sec) or less and so they are not accurate enough for such use.
Whilst you could capture the GPS Data Stream output and use some maths to calculate these figures the 0-60 would be wildly innaccurate and you have the accuray factors when starting the measurements on standing quarter and flying mile etc to further compund errors.
Racelogic have a GPS based system for calculating such measurements but they use a 20Hz survey quality receiver which provides the necessary accuracy at a price! See http://www.racelogic.co.uk/2003/vbox/vboxii.htm _________________ Darren Griffin |
