Help Needed

Hi, Please help me
i've just bought a Medion PPC250 of ebay with TomTom5.
I got it used it, it worked fine.
I turned it on to use it for the second time and the PDA had some how reset itself.
I think it may have something to do with the battery going totally dead, not sure.
Long story short i have reactivated TomTom but can't get a signal, i think because i dont have an internet connection.

I know nothing about PDA's, and when i tried connecting to the internet it asked to set-up proxy servers and modems and type in area codes.
Stuff i don't know about.

How do i get TomTom to work, do i need an that internet connection?
if so what do i need to do?
AND IS THE OLD DATA IN THE PDA SOMEWHERE???

Any help is greatly appreciated.
