Roads appearing/disappearing in 3D view

Sorry if this has been asked and answered already.

I've noticed that in 3D view only (TomTom One NE Europe) some roads appear and/or disappear as they are approached. I've seen this heading south on the M1 as I join at J6 (Bucknalls Lane crosses the M1, and is visible as I join the motorway, but then disappears as I get closer) and also in a couple of other situations. It doesn't happen in 2D mode. Just curious as to why ...
