does anyone know what these cameras are used for??
there are some on the north/ southbound M40 J15 over all 3 lanes
on the m25 ovelooking all lanes and entrance to clackett lane services
on the M20 past J4 london bound
they look like normal highway camera but with a black box next to it maybe an infared or some sort of detector
but they seem to be sprouting up all over the roads I travel
does anyone know what they are detecting??
thanks _________________ Garmin Nuvi 1390T |

Go HERE scroll down towards the bottom and see if one of the pictures matches what you've seen. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

I've seen the ones at Clacket Lane and I think they are probably ANPR cameras to catch VED dodgers. If you look at some of the angles of the cameras, they appear to be positioned to monitor vehicles which are driving too close to the one in front, thus hiding the number plate. _________________ Tim |

With Reagrds to your findings on what the camera is that you see whilst driving around.. i have come across another type of camera or maybe the same camera u saw but am unsure as to just what type of camera this is & what it does?
These Camera's were found Locally @ ongoing road works location with a "Police Speed Check" sign posted around the area.
so if anyone out there knows of this type of camera please do share your knowledge & solve the mystery.
Ok im new to the whole forum thing.. how do u post a picture?
I will try to add a picture i have taken with my mobile phone to see if someone can figure it out.
(apologies in advance for any poor picture quality.. but hey what do expect for a mobile phone camera @ a distance).
Regards.

Drive through at breakneck speed with no tax disc in a stolen car?
Alternatively, you could take a photo and ask the camera spotters here if they could give an opinion on it. _________________ Gone fishing! |

I think they are for reading reg numbers to check tax/insurance because the ones I went past on the M40 had one waiting chase car about 1/2 mile after them and not the three chase cars on the M11 , which had a static radar van parked on the grass bank. ( more speeders than tax/insurance dodgers ). |

The M40 cameras are ANPR and part of the Birmingham Ring of Steel to combat serious crime such as terrorism.
You will find the same type of camera on the M69.
They only record your vehichle registration plate, and nothing to worry about as far as speeding is concerned. :D |
