Research has shown that only 15% of road accidents are the result of excess speed. Over 80% of accidents are the result of 'Driver inattention'. I'm sure you know what I mean: fiddling with the radio, CD player, TV, mobile phone, aircon, climate control, cruise control, trip computer, engine settings, suspension settings and (yes) the SatNav. There have been big rises in the number of road accidents over the past few years and it's no coincidence that commonly available cars have become more powerful and complex at the same time. The current proliferation of speed cameras, especially mobiles, actually adds to the problem. The 11.5 thousand locations in the PGPS database is a ridiculous figure and it's one more thing to take your attention off your driving. How many of you have had a driver swoop by, cut in and slam the brakes on because he just spotted the camera? Properly used, they are a positive step towards safer roads, but that is not currently the case. In 20 miles of road where I live I can recall at least 15 road deaths over the years. Where does the speed camera sit? In the only unjustifiable 30 mph limit on the road watching a downhill run in either direction where there have been no deaths but the income potential is at its maximum for the whole 20 miles of road. Put the cameras where the problems are and although the revenue would go down, just maybe we might save a few lives. Any opinions or examples of blatantly misuse of cameras please.

Really? Are you talking about the UK? The propoganda tells us that speed cameras are saving lives. What's your source for this statistic? _________________ Gone fishing!
