First of all, can I start with an apology! I know there are masses of posts on this forum which probably cover every question that I am going to ask, but I have been looking for the answers for the last three hours & just find myself going round in circles!! I've got a headache!! I need a Night In Shining Armour to come to the rescue of a Damsel in Distress!!
I have received my Gamin Streetpilot i3 this morning, which I purchased off the Comet Website. I have already read on here that there are older & newer versions - mine seems to be the "newer" version, WITH the inbuilt memory but WITHOUT a memory card included.
I have got the unit out of its box and:
a) Taken it into the garden & got a GPS fix (only took about 60 seconds for a first fix, which impressed me greatly!)
b) Intstalled the USB driver
c) Installed Webupdater & ran the programme (now running v3.10)
d) Installed the POILoader (v2.3.2.0)
e) Downloaded POI's from the link on the Garmin website to www.MaFt.co.uk
f) Downloaded the speed camera database from PGPSW
g) Unzipped the files into one folder
h) Tried to install the POI/Cameras using the POILoader
BUT am told they exceed the available space & to reduce the number & try again. I deleted a load of the POI's but got the same response. I then moved the speed cameras into their own folder & tried just installing them on their own & again I am told there is insufficient space.
I have found MANY posts on here saying that both the OLD & NEW versions should still be able to take both these sets of data, so am I doing something wrong? I did find one post which mentioned that a seperate Transflash memory card may be required, but before I go out & spend any more money, can someone please confirm:
1) Do I definitely need a Transflash card?
2) What size of card do I need to get, as a guide, to store the POIs & Speed Camera Database on?
3) What is the biggest card the unit will accommodate?
4) Do I need to also purchase a card reader, as I do not have one at present & the previous post I found seemed to suggest that I can't transfer the data directly to the unit when the card is installed?
I really need to get the unit up & running as soon as I can, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

On closer inspection, I now realise that this must be the OLD version, as I've just noticed it DOES have a 256mb Transflash card in it!!
Now I'm even more confused, cos those who seem to have the older version never seemed to have any kind of problem, so why should I????
To re-iterate from my post above (which I can't edit, for some reason?) Do I need to get a card reader in order to update any POI's/Cameras?
Many thanks!

Hi,
I'm new to this but I'll try to help.
You are not alone. I had the same problem as you and found it was not possible to put the safety cameras/POI's on to the unit directly.
Fortunately I have a card reader so in my case I just bought a Micro SD to SD adapter from Maplin for about a fiver.
I think someone has managed to do it with a digi camera that takes SD cards. If you have one you would still need an adapter but could use the camera to perform the transfer.
Otherwise you will probably need to buy a reader so try to get one that reads MicroSD without the need for an adapter to save some cash. |

Mines a Comet one too. I followed the "...for dummies" sticky to the letter, it didn't work for me, but I realise it must have for others. I figured it out in the end but wondered if the sticky could be amended for the newer i3's. |

Mines the same. Its strange cos without the card the unit asks for map data, but trying to upload poi's doesn't work unless you only put less in, around 20,000 I think fit.
I had to install mine on the card too, which contained all the normal stuff, i.e voices & maps. |
