I was under the impression, wrongly, it seems, that to add a new poi category you needed just the address of the place and then the software, (ov2 tools) which I have already downloaded, and a suitable icon.
Upon reading the info with the software it appears that I need the Lat. and Long. of the relevant poi and not the address. Is this correct ? Or have I read this wrong?
If this is correct where would I need to go to change the address to the Lat. and Long.

Create the category by selecting 'change preferences' 'manag poi' 'add poi category' and use one of the default icons for now. You can always change this later using any BMP you wish as long as you resize it to 22 x 22 pixles.
Then choose 'browse map' find your address and then select the point on the map and click on the third icon from the left at the bottom (sure it must have a name), select 'add as poi', choose your category from the list and job done!! No need to have the longitude/latitude.
Hope this helps. |

Thanks very much for all your info. It worked exactly as you both suggested. However, after spending the evening downloading 87 poi's a thought had occured to me.
When we get the upgrade to TT6 and we get new maps do I lose the custome Poi's or are the settings kept and transfered onto the new maps? After spending a long time inputting them I would hate to think all that effort has been wasted.

If you only upgrade the Software, the POI's are safe as they are in the Map Folder. However you do lose any Warn When Near Settings as this is kept in one of the Files that are installed with a Software Upgrade.
If you Upgrade the Maps as well, you will need to Backup the POI's to the PC as a precaution. The old Folder is usually deleted, and a new Folder created. _________________ Richard

Hi Richard
I have searched my PDA for the poi files that I have installed and I cant find them, but they are there and work perfectly. I want to back up the poi's to my PC as you have suggested but cant find the folder. Where did they install?
Thanks

They should be on your storage card, in the Great Britain map folder.
If you called your category 'freds pubs' then there should be two files you need to copy.
fredspubs.bmp
fredspubs.ov2
Hope this helps. |
