Hi all
Has anyone used this BT77 GPS in London? My experience with this is it's not very good. The problems I have been getting is TT5 would 'spin' as if I have changed direction. It was suggested to me that I should turn off the 3D mode and use 2D instead but this doesn't make difference. It would also sometimes while in a typical London traffic it would report that I am in a different road all of a sudden even though that I am stationary. Despite this main problem driving in London, it would direct me to my final destination...eventually. However, while outside the City, it works a treat and I have no complaints. My conclusion to the problem operating in London are the tall buildings that's preventing the GPS to get a good satellite fix.
Does anyone else share this same problem?
Many thanks |

Welcome to the forum, Your conclusion answers your own question the BT77 is a decent unit but confined within tall buildings it will struggle to achieve a steady lock. The "jumping" about and "spinning" of the display is usually due to the loss or lack of a sat signal. Once the signal is re-aquired the software will take you to the destination, keep an eye on the signal strength meter (bottom RH) and see if that gives a prior indication to the spinning (i.e. it drops to no bars).
If the vehicle has thermal glass consider an external GPS or re-rad unit to boost the signal in the car, or a sirfIII equipped GPS unit as these have a far greater sensitivity, but can, at times still struggle in heavily built up areas - Mike |

As you found out, the display mode has no effect on knowledge of position.
Everybody gets the symptoms that you get. There is a 'Show GPS status' menu option. It shows you how many satellites are in view and their signal strength. |

This problem of a spinning display and losing satellite fixes is common across platforms when operating in London. Probably the same elswhere when driving in conditions similar to deep and narrow ravines. _________________ - - - - - - - - -
