Hello @all,

since I am new in this forum I don't know whether anybody asked this already: is it possible to readout in real time the altitude of the current coordinates. It is stored in the Log-file, so why I cannto read it on the display. Could this be a new feature or is it already available and I cannot access to it.

Regards Klaus

I think it's simply that no TomTom software makes any use of altitude data - so the TomTom GPS driver hides the information.

It appears in the log file simply because the TomTom driver uses the GGA NMEA sentence for other things.

The Holux GPS Viewer software provides an altitude read out but I dont know if it would work with other GPS Receivers

You can use any other GPS software that bothers - WinFast, Mapopolis, etc. As was said above, the altitude doesn't really make a difference in street routing. It is simply not accurate enough to distinguish between streets that are crossed by a bridge and other, multi level architectural wonders. Just imagine you are driving on a highway (motorway) where the opposite lanes are on top of each other (like the I76 in Philadelphia) - the altitude readout still wouldn't help you simply because you don't get a signal at all in the lower lane...

Thanks to all of you,

@lbendlin,

I just was wondering if I can generate a profile when crossing the Alps with my motorbike and afterwards check the mountains I made. For real nav I understand it won't work at all. I will try the suggested software for playing around now.

Thanks again and best regards,

Klaus

Well, if you enable GPS logging you may be able to capture this data. Not sure about TomTom, but the Mapopolis (4.21) GPS log does actually contain the altitude as well as location and time. You could then load that data back into your analysis tool.
