Has anyone out there with a Palm been able to customize the menu layout on there TomTom Navigator 5? I have been trying and been unable to. I know you can with Pocket PC versions but what about Palm?

yes, tried it and it works. Make sure you get the file name upper/lowercase right (TomTom.mnu)

Can you tell me exactly what you did from start to finish? I've tried several variations of TomTom.mnu and placed it into the SdkRegistry under the TomTom folder on my Palm. I am using TomTom Navigator v5.12 I cannot seem to get this thing to work.

C'mon Lutz, don't be shy Wink - I've been through the same pain as Jumpjet by the look of things, and am no further forward.

I'd be interested in your secrets too Confused

I may have confused it with the ability to take screenshots (which is possible on the Palm). However, the program code contains all the custom menu items, so I still think this is possible somehow. I'll let you know what I find out.

Alright, to do screenshots creat a folder "screen" on the storage card, and the put an empty file called "capture" in it. Then in TomTom, tap the upper left corner to take a screenshot. Note: zooming out will obviously no longer work.

The file must not have a file extension, i.e. it must be called just "capture" not "capture.bmp", etc! That caught me out. Embarassed

Hey, Lutz! Nice little trick - I like it... :D

Do let us know how you get on with the custom menus - there must be several people out here waiting for that functionality on Palm OS (at least two of us, anyway).

Thanks

oh...and if you have any other neat tricks up your sleeve, don't keep them to yourself! Laughing

Lutz asked (in another thread) whether anyone had tried the latest variations of spelling of directory for the 'custom menus' hack under PalmOS.

With TTN5 on a Palm T3, I've tried:

Putting a folder called "SdkRegistry" with the TomTom.mnu file in it in the existing "tomtom" folder

Putting a folder called "SdkRegistry" with the TomTom.mnu file in it in the root directory of the SD card

Putting a folder called "SdkRegistry" with the TomTom.mnu file in it in the existing "tomtom" folder and renaming that folder "TomTom"

None worked. Anyone got any other likely variants worth trying before we give up and conclude that the hack only works under Linux?

Incidentally, I generated the TomTom.mnu file at http://tomtom.skux.net (previously mentioned in other threads). The creator of that site has done a great job there - just a shame TomTom didn't do such a great job making their implementation consistent on all platforms
